Jennifer English Exits Tides of Annihilation to Prioritize Her Health

Jennifer English Steps Away From Gwendolyn Role in Tides of Annihilation

Jennifer English will no longer voice Gwendolyn, the lead character in Tides of Annihilation, developer Eclipse Glow Games has confirmed. The acclaimed actor, best known to many players for her performances as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has left the role due to personal health reasons.

According to Eclipse Glow Games, English informed the studio of her decision in June, choosing to prioritize her well-being. While she will no longer provide Gwendolyn’s voice, she is not leaving the project entirely. The studio confirmed that English will continue to support Tides of Annihilation in an advisory role, helping the team preserve the spirit and emotional depth of the character.

The developer also shared that English played an active part in the search for her replacement. She worked alongside the studio and cast members to help find a new performer capable of staying true to Gwendolyn’s personality, tone, and role within the story.

A new voice actor has already been chosen, though Eclipse Glow Games has not yet revealed her name. The studio said her recent performances in video games stood out to both the team and English. They were especially impressed by the care and attention she brought while studying Gwendolyn and preparing to take on the role.

Recording is currently underway for the upcoming Gamescom 2026 demo of Tides of Annihilation. Attendees at the event will be the first to hear the new voice performance for Gwendolyn. Eclipse Glow Games also plans to release more official material featuring the replacement actor’s voice in August.

Tides of Annihilation is an Arthurian-inspired action adventure set in a devastated version of modern London. Players take control of Gwendolyn as she battles supernatural forces, summons more than ten spectral knights, and faces massive roaming giants across the ruined city.

The game is currently in development for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date has not yet been announced.
