Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, is set to conclude his remarkable 15-year career with the company this month. In a recent announcement, Apple revealed that Sabih Khan will succeed Williams, marking a significant shift in the leadership dynamic. Notably, Apple’s design team will now report directly to CEO Tim Cook, bypassing the COO.
Despite stepping down, Williams will continue to oversee the design team until his official retirement later this year. Sabih Khan, who currently holds the title of Senior Vice President of Operations, has long been anticipated as Williams’ successor. Cook praised Khan as a visionary strategist, noting his pivotal role in shaping Apple’s supply chain and advancing new technologies in manufacturing, particularly in expanding Apple’s presence in the U.S. Khan’s 30-year tenure at Apple has culminated in this prestigious new role.
Jeff Williams’ contributions to Apple are monumental. He played an integral role in developing one of the world’s most respected supply chains and was key in launching and evolving the Apple Watch. His influence extended to shaping Apple’s health strategy and pivotal developments in the iPod and iPhone programs. Cook expressed deep gratitude for Williams’ contributions and friendship, highlighting the lasting legacy he’s built through his dedicated team.
As the design team transitions to reporting directly to Cook, the company is poised for a new era under Khan’s leadership. Although Williams’ departure marks the end of an era, Apple is confident that Sabih Khan is well-equipped to step into these substantial shoes.
