Invincible VS Unleashes a Creator-Penned Story Mode in Its New Trailer

A new Story Mode trailer for Invincible VS is turning heads, and it finally explains why the upcoming fighting game seems so heavily centered on Viltrumite characters. Rather than being a simple roster choice, it’s tied directly to the game’s narrative: a parallel-timeline storyline where Omni-Man stays loyal to Viltrum and leads a full-scale invasion of Earth.

The Story Mode is being billed as an original experience written by the team behind the Invincible animated series, expanding the universe with a “what if” scenario that feels believable within the franchise’s brutal stakes. In this alternate timeline, Omni-Man isn’t acting alone. He’s supported by four additional Viltrumites—Conquest, Thula, Lucan, and Anissa—setting up what looks like a sustained, coordinated takeover rather than a lone betrayal.

The trailer also hints at a few major twists designed to keep the plot from feeling like a straight retread. One of the biggest is Universa, an original character created for the game who can manipulate elements in a way that recalls classic elemental combat styles. On top of that, there are teases of an alternate-dimension storyline, which could serve as both a narrative curveball and a practical way for the heroes to grow stronger as the invasion escalates.

For a fighting game, the Story Mode presentation looks unusually ambitious. Instead of relying on static scenes and text-heavy sequences, Invincible VS is leaning into full voice acting and motion capture, with dynamic cutscenes that aim to deliver a more cinematic, show-like feel. While it’s too early to judge the final quality from a single trailer, the visual fidelity and overall production values so far appear more polished than many tie-in fighters people might expect.

Beyond the story, audio is also a major focus. The game features an original soundtrack from electronic duo The Glitch Mob, which could be a strong fit for a fast, high-impact fighter with dramatic set pieces and intense character clashes. Development talent is another promising sign, with the team including veterans known for work on technical, momentum-driven fighting games. Early player impressions from the open beta also leaned positive, particularly among fans who enjoy tactical back-and-forth combat and skill-based matchups.

Invincible VS launches April 30, 2025, with cross-platform multiplayer on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Pre-orders are already live, and there’s also a PlayStation 5 Collector’s Edition that includes a Steelbook case, a collector’s box, a Year 1 Character Pass, and Deluxe Edition cosmetics. Additional extras include a mini reprint of Invincible #1, four keepsake trading cards, art cards, a developer thank-you letter, and a printed controller layout card.
