Instagram is making it easier to find that Reel you swiped past and can’t track down again. The platform has introduced Watch History for Reels, a long-requested feature that lets you revisit videos you’ve already viewed. It’s especially handy if you got a phone call mid-scroll, accidentally closed the app, or simply lost your place in the feed.
You can access Watch History by heading to your Profile, opening Settings, selecting Your Activity, and then tapping Watch History. From there, you can filter your history by the past week or month, choose a custom date range, and even remove individual Reels you don’t want to keep. Instagram also goes a step further with flexible sorting options: view your history in chronological or reverse chronological order, or sort by creator to quickly find videos from specific accounts.
The company says this feature has been one of the most requested by users. Before now, people resorted to awkward workarounds, like downloading their data and digging through files just to recover previously watched videos. Watch History removes that hassle and brings Instagram’s short-form video experience much closer to what many users already expect from competing apps.
This update follows a series of Reels improvements designed to enhance discovery and viewing. Instagram recently added the ability for creators to link multiple Reels into a connected series and introduced Picture-in-Picture playback, making it easier to keep watching while multitasking.
Tips to get the most from Watch History:
– Use date filters to quickly find a Reel you watched during a specific time period.
– Sort by author when you remember the creator but not the video title or sound.
– Clean up your list by removing Reels you don’t need to revisit.
Whether you’re trying to rediscover a tutorial, a travel clip, or a funny moment you forgot to save, Watch History makes it far easier to pick up where you left off and keep your favorite Reels within easy reach.
