Instagram Outage Hits Thousands of Users Worldwide as App and Feed Problems Surge
Instagram users are dealing with a widespread outage, with thousands reporting problems accessing the app, refreshing their feeds, sending messages, and connecting to Instagram’s servers.
According to outage tracking data, reports began climbing sharply around 4:53 PM EDT on June 23, 2026. By 5:13 PM EDT, the number of user complaints had surged to 1,716, compared with a normal baseline of just 3. That sudden spike suggests a significant service disruption rather than a slow or isolated technical issue.
The most common Instagram problems being reported include app crashes, failed loading screens, server connection errors, and timeline or feed issues. App-related failures appear to make up the majority of complaints, accounting for around 60% of reported problems. Server connection issues follow at 18%, while feed and timeline problems account for about 17%.
The outage appears to be affecting users across multiple regions, with many complaints coming from the United States. Reports are especially concentrated along the East Coast, as well as in major areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, and Miami. Users outside the U.S. are also reporting trouble, indicating that the disruption may not be limited to one country or network provider.
Additional outage monitoring services have also recorded a rise in Instagram-related problems over the past 24 hours. Some reports point to website loading failures, messaging disruptions, and general app instability beginning earlier in the day.
This latest Instagram outage comes shortly after another major Meta service disruption earlier in June, when Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger were all affected at the same time. That incident left users around the world unable to access key features for several hours before services gradually returned to normal.
At the time of writing, Meta has not released an official public statement explaining the cause of the current Instagram outage. It remains unclear whether the issue is connected to server problems, app infrastructure, account services, or a broader technical failure.
Users who are currently unable to access Instagram can try a few basic troubleshooting steps while waiting for the platform to recover. Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data may help if the issue is network-related. Force-closing and reopening the app can also resolve minor glitches. Some users may also want to restart their device or check whether an app update is available.
However, if the outage is caused by Instagram’s servers, there may be little users can do except wait for service to be restored. Based on the volume and timing of reports, the issue appears to be on Instagram’s side rather than a problem with individual devices.
Instagram remains one of the world’s most widely used social media platforms, so even a short disruption can quickly affect millions of people. For creators, businesses, advertisers, and everyday users, outages can interrupt posting schedules, messaging, customer engagement, and real-time updates.
More details are expected if Meta provides an official update or if reports begin to decline, indicating that Instagram services are returning to normal.
