Hyperkin ShockLine Brings USB-C Power to Retro Consoles and Classic Handhelds
Hyperkin is giving retro gaming setups a modern upgrade with its new ShockLine series, a collection of USB-C power kits designed for classic consoles and handheld systems. Instead of relying on aging, bulky power bricks and worn-out proprietary cables, players can now use compact USB-C power adapters and cables built for a cleaner, simpler setup.
The Hyperkin ShockLine lineup is aimed at anyone who still plays original hardware, including systems from Nintendo and Sega. These kits replace old power supplies with USB-C-based solutions while keeping compatibility with beloved retro devices such as the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo DSi, Famicom, Super Famicom, and Sega Model 1 consoles.
Each ShockLine kit includes a USB-C cable, a compact USB-C power adapter rated up to 45W, and the correct connector or adapter needed for the supported device. For example, the Nintendo 64 version includes a converter that connects directly to the console’s original power port, while the GameCube kit comes with a 45W USB-C adapter.
One of the biggest advantages of the ShockLine series is the smaller power adapter design. Original retro console power bricks can take up too much room on power strips and may block nearby outlets. Hyperkin’s compact USB-C adapters are designed to free up space, making it easier to organize a gaming area with multiple consoles plugged in.
The cables are also described as kink-resistant, which should help with durability over time. For handheld systems, Hyperkin adds built-in overcharge protection, giving players a more convenient way to charge older portable devices without relying on original charging cables that may be hard to find or damaged after years of use.
The ShockLine series currently includes five options:
Hyperkin ShockLine USB-C Charging Cable Kit for Nintendo 3DS, 2DS, and DSi, priced at $19.99
Hyperkin ShockLine USB-C Power Supply for Nintendo 64, priced at $24.99
Hyperkin ShockLine USB-C Charging Cable Kit for Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo DS, priced at $19.99
Hyperkin ShockLine USB-C Power Supply for Retro Consoles, supporting Famicom, Super Famicom, NES, Sega Model 1, and SNES, priced at $24.99
Hyperkin ShockLine USB-C Power Supply Kit for GameCube, priced at $24.99
The Hyperkin ShockLine kits are scheduled for release on September 16. They are available through Hyperkin’s official store, with pre-orders also offered through major retailers.
For retro gaming fans, this could be a practical upgrade that keeps classic hardware easier to use in modern setups. With USB-C becoming the standard for many devices, ShockLine offers a cleaner and more convenient way to power older consoles and handhelds without changing the nostalgic experience of playing on original systems.
