Halo Studios Emerges: New Halo Titles to Harness Unreal Engine 5 Magic

In a bold move, 343 Industries is undergoing a transformation, rebranding itself as Halo Studios. This announcement comes alongside thrilling news that new Halo adventures are in the works, this time being crafted with the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5. While specifics on the fresh Halo titles remain under wraps, it is confirmed that multiple projects are currently in development using this innovative technology. Meanwhile, Halo Infinite will continue its journey on the studio’s Slipspace Engine, receiving regular updates and fresh content to keep players engaged.

To give fans a glimpse of the future, the studio has unveiled “Project Foundry.” This isn’t a game or a tech demo, but an exciting exploration of the possibilities Unreal Engine 5 can offer the Halo universe. Here’s a peek at the insights shared by key team members about this thrilling new chapter for Halo and a newfound vision for the franchise.

Studio Head Pierre Hintze shared, “We see Halo as having two significant chapters. The initial chapter was crafted by Bungie, followed by 343 Industries. Now, we’re opening a new chapter. We want to enhance not just development efficiency but also reinvent how we create Halo games to quench the audience’s thirst for more. Today marks the start of that journey.”

Pointing to a shift in gaming culture, Hintze noted, “Gamers today have different consumption habits and expect faster content delivery. We were building a tech stack for the future with Halo Infinite, and now switching to Unreal allows us to focus on delivering multiple exceptional experiences.”

COO Elizabeth van Wyck emphasized the need for evolving game creation approaches. “The previous methods for making Halo games aren’t aligning with our future vision. The focus is now on game creation rather than on crafting tools and engines. It’s also about the speed at which we can update the game and respond to player desires.”

Studio Art Director Chris Matthews added, “Some parts of our Slipspace technology date back nearly 25 years. While continuously developing it, Unreal Engine has advanced features that we would have found challenging to replicate. Exciting technologies like Nanite and Lumen offer a chance to expand our game worlds in ways never seen before, allowing players deeper engagement and richer experiences.”

This rebranding to Halo Studios and the integration of Unreal Engine 5 symbolizes a transformative journey for the iconic franchise, promising innovative experiences that maintain the essence of Halo while embracing the frontier of gaming technology. Fans can look forward to this exciting new era, with plans being unfolded deliberately to ensure both quality and innovation in every step forward.
