GPD has just unveiled the price structure for its cutting-edge DUO OLED “dual-screen” laptop, available in both AMD Strix and Hawk Point configurations.
Always pushing the boundaries of innovation, GPD is set to mesmerize consumers with its latest offering—the DUO OLED laptop. Known for their unique and compact devices, GPD has previously wowed users with gadgets like the GPD Win Max 2, a handheld device complete with its own keyboard. Now, the company leaps into the dual-screen laptop market with the GPD DUO OLED, promising both utility and an attention-grabbing design.
The GPD DUO OLED is pioneering in its space as it’s the first from GPD to sport AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 APU, notably the high-end Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. For those looking to save a bit, there’s also an option with the AMD Hawk Point APU, featuring the Ryzen 7 8840U. This versatile device boasts up to 64 GB of LPDDR5 memory and up to 2TB of storage, packing a punch in terms of performance for a compact laptop.
What sets the GPD DUO OLED apart is its innovative “dual-screen” design. This isn’t a completely new concept; for example, the ACEMAGIC X1 offered a similar multi-screen experience though it had some shortcomings in build quality and hinge design. The GPD DUO, however, aims to refine and perfect this idea. Featuring two 13.3-inch AMOLED screens with a crisp resolution of 2880 × 1800, it provides a 60 Hz display. While this might not satisfy hardcore gamers seeking higher refresh rates, it offers versatility for other applications. The screens swivel 360 degrees, focusing on a vertical extension rather than a side-by-side setup, which can prove beneficial depending on the user’s needs.
In addition to its dual-screen setup, the GPD DUO is packed with modern connectivity options, including support for WiFi-6E, Bluetooth 5.3, a USB4 Type-C port, and an OCuLink port for external connections. On paper, it’s impressive, but the big question remains: Will the dual-screen laptop catch on with a broader audience and prove sustainable in the long run?
The pricing reveals a premium for all this innovation. The top-tier configuration will set you back $1971, though an Indiegogo discount lowers it to $1860. The Hawk Point variant is somewhat less costly, with a retail price of $1425 and a discounted price of $1270. Interestingly, pre-orders on the company’s page list even higher prices, with the Hawk Point APU paired with 16 GB memory and a 512 GB SSD for $2100, while the Strix Point variant with 32 GB memory and 1 TB SSD goes for $2640. Mark your calendars, as the GPD DUO is slated for release on November 22nd.
With these eye-catching specs and novel design, the DUO OLED has potential, but its success will depend on consumer reception. Do you think dual-screen laptops are the next big thing in tech?
