Google Introduces Gemini AI Mobile App in India with Multilingual Support

Google has expanded the reach of its AI-powered Gemini mobile app to India, broadening its language support to cater to the diverse linguistic landscape of the country. As of its latest update, Gemini now includes the option for Indian users to interact with the app in a total of nine native languages in addition to English.

The significant language lineup for the Gemini mobile app encompasses Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This development paves the way for a more inclusive and personalized AI experience, enabling users across India to engage with the app using their preferred language, simply by typing or speaking.

Gemini’s suite in India is further enhanced by the introduction of the premium Gemini Advanced service. Drawing from the strengths of Gemini 1.5 Pro, this premium version provides a wide context window of 1 million tokens. This impressive capability allows the processing of substantial volumes of information, from lengthy documents of up to 1,500 pages to intricate data analyses, all with language support extending to the aforementioned Indian languages.

The convenience of the Gemini app is accessible to Android smartphone owners via the Google Play Store, and it’s integrated with the Google Assistant for those wanting to activate Gemini AI seamlessly. Shortly, iPhone users in India will also have the chance to experience Gemini through the Google app, broadening its accessibility.

During the latest Google I/O developer conference, Google teased additional roles for the Gemini AI assistant across its ecosystem, including popular apps like Gmail, Google Messages, and YouTube, all while embedding the AI more deeply into the Android operating system itself. Users can expect to see these features gradually being introduced to compatible devices in the upcoming months. Notably, Gemini has started to feature within Google Messages in English, marking the beginning of its integration into Google’s array of services.

Originally launched in the U.S. back in February, the Gemini mobile app has been steadily making its debut across international markets, reaching European regions such as Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, and the U.K. Later, the app expanded its language offerings to include Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese, underlining Google’s commitment to creating a universally accessible AI tool.

This new initiative by Google presents a promising advancement for users in India, offering them the ability to interact with Gemini AI in their local languages and promising a cohesive and enhanced user experience tailored for the Indian demographic.
