Google Pixel Watch 5 spotted in Google Health app ahead of August 12 launch
The Google Pixel Watch 5 is getting closer to its official debut, and a new early appearance suggests Google is already preparing its apps for the upcoming smartwatch. With the company’s next launch event set for August 12, the Pixel Watch 5 has now reportedly shown up inside the Google Health app, giving users an early look at what to expect.
The smartwatch appears in the app’s list of compatible devices during the setup process for connecting a new product. While the images shown in the app may still be placeholders, they closely match earlier leaked renders of the Pixel Watch 5. That makes it increasingly likely that Google is sticking with a familiar design rather than introducing a major visual overhaul.
Based on the early app appearance and previous leaks, the Pixel Watch 5 is expected to look very similar to the Pixel Watch 4. That may not sound exciting at first, but it could come with one important advantage: easier repairability. If Google keeps the same general construction as the previous model, the Pixel Watch 5 may remain more repair-friendly than many other premium smartwatches.
However, the upgrade may be more modest under the hood. Rumors suggest the Google Pixel Watch 5 could continue using the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip, the same processor found in its predecessor. Some users may have hoped for a newer wearable chipset, especially as rival smartwatch brands continue pushing performance and efficiency improvements.
There may still be a meaningful performance boost, though. The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to come with 3 GB of RAM, up from 2 GB in the Pixel Watch 4. That extra memory could help the smartwatch handle more demanding features, including AI-powered tools, smoother multitasking, and faster app performance.
Connectivity is also expected to remain strong. The Google Pixel Watch 5 is rumored to include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, NFC for contactless payments, GPS for fitness tracking and navigation, and an ultra-wideband chip. An LTE version is also expected, giving users the option to stay connected without relying on a nearby phone.
What remains unclear is whether Google will introduce new health sensors or major fitness tracking upgrades. The Google Health app listing does not reveal details about new wellness features, so fans may need to wait until the official launch to learn whether the Pixel Watch 5 brings improved heart tracking, sleep analysis, workout tools, or other health-focused upgrades.
For now, the early appearance in the Google Health app strongly suggests the Pixel Watch 5 launch is right on schedule. While the smartwatch may not deliver a dramatic redesign or a completely new processor, it could still appeal to Pixel users who want a polished Wear OS experience, better memory for AI features, strong connectivity, and a design that remains familiar and practical.
