Gina Carano Seeks Legal Action Against Disney for Alleged Wrongful Termination

Actress Gina Carano has taken legal action against Disney and LucasFilm, claiming discrimination and wrongful termination after being ousted from the popular series “Star Wars: The Mandalorian.” The suit has gained notable support as engineering and technology entrepreneur Elon Musk, via his platform X (previously named Twitter), has committed to funding her legal defense. Musk’s involvement came after his acquisition of the platform, where he expressed an intent to support those who believe they were unfairly terminated or discriminated against due to their activities on the social media site.

In her lawsuit, Carano asserts that her removal from the series was a result of sharing conservative views on Twitter. She points to a specific post where she suggested that being a Republican in the current political climate was akin to being Jewish during the Holocaust. She suggests the company employs a double standard, where those expressing left-leaning viewpoints receive less scrutiny. As a reference, she mentions actor Pedro Pascal, who drew parallels between former President Donald Trump and Hitler back in 2017, and yet, according to Carano, faced no consequences similar to hers.

The legal filing, which is available for public viewing thanks to an upload by The Hollywood Reporter, includes Carano’s portrayal of the character Carasynthia “Cara” Dune, a former militant turned marshal from Alderaan serving the New Republic.

Carano’s legal pursuit includes seeking a court mandate to be reinstated in her role on “The Mandalorian.” Additionally, she is pursuing monetary damages starting at a minimum of $75,000, not excluding potential punitive damages.

This case has certainly garnered attention and may set a precedent regarding social media conduct and its impact on employment within the entertainment industry.
