Google has unveiled a new feature in its Gemini chatbot app, allowing users to modify AI-generated images as well as those uploaded from their own devices. This exciting update is set to roll out gradually, reaching users in over 45 languages across various countries in the coming weeks.
This launch follows the buzz around the AI image-editing model Google introduced earlier, which stirred conversation due to its ability to remove watermarks. Gemini’s image editor now aims to deliver superior results compared to traditional AI image generators, similar to recent upgrades seen in ChatGPT.
The Gemini platform introduces a “multi-step” editing process designed to provide richer and more contextual responses. Users can seamlessly blend text and images, change backgrounds, replace objects, and add new elements within the Gemini workflow.
For instance, users can upload a personal photo and prompt Gemini to imagine different hair colors or even draft a bedtime story about dragons complete with illustrations.
While this might raise concerns about deepfake risks, Google assures users that any images created or edited through Gemini will include an invisible watermark for security. Additionally, the company is exploring the implementation of visible watermarks on all Gemini-produced images to enhance transparency and safety.
