Galaxy S26 Ultra camera configuration shared in latest rumor

Galaxy S26 Ultra to Feature Single 200MP Camera, Citing Chipset Constraints: New Rumor Insights

Amidst swirling rumors and speculation, keen eyes have turned towards the highly anticipated camera setup of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Given Samsung’s practice of experimenting with various prototypes before deciding on a final design for mass production, this focus isn’t unexpected. Initial whisperings suggested that Samsung’s premier model, slated for an early 2026 release, might boast a dual 200MP rear camera system. However, a reliable source has shut down these claims, indicating that, mirroring its predecessor the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the new model will feature only one 200MP sensor.

One reason behind the single 200MP sensor choice seems to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset’s capabilities. Previous reports highlighted that Samsung was evaluating a version of the Galaxy S26 Ultra with three rear cameras, which seemed like a step back from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s four-camera setup. However, this downscale isn’t bad news. According to the insider, the decision to stick with a single 200MP sensor arises from the limitations of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.

To elaborate, Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite can handle a single camera with a resolution of up to 320MP. Hence, it’s plausible that Samsung chose to test the Galaxy S26 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, realizing that a leap in functionality to accommodate dual 200MP sensors might be too ambitious for a single chipset generation. While there’s chatter about whether an Exynos 2600 chipset might be in play, there has been no confirmation of its involvement.

Interestingly, the same source that debunked the dual sensor rumor initially mentioned a prototype of the phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, without references to an Exynos 2600 being tested. Despite the chipset’s limitations, rumors suggest Samsung is planning to reintroduce variable aperture technology to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This feature could add extra flexibility, enhancing the overall flagship experience. Additionally, there’s talk about the return of the S Pen’s Bluetooth capabilities.

As of now, any perceived shortcomings in the Galaxy S25 Ultra might be addressed when the Galaxy S26 Ultra officially hits the market early next year. Still, it’s wise to take these early reports with caution and wait for more definitive updates. Stay tuned for the latest developments!
