A heavily camouflaged Tesla Robotaxi prototype has been spotted and photographed, giving enthusiasts and experts a tantalizing glimpse at the future of autonomous driving. Even though the yellow foil does a good job concealing the exact design, some key features shine through.
From what can be seen, the prototype appears more compact than the Tesla Model Y. There are notable resemblances to earlier concept drawings, especially the flat front and the rearward sloping windshield. A standout feature is the continuous rear light strip running across the entire width of the back, reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck’s distinctive design.
Interestingly, the prototype features an elevation on its roof, which might house a LiDAR sensor. This is particularly surprising since Tesla has consistently downplayed the need for LiDAR technology in achieving autonomous driving capabilities.
Excitement is building for the official unveiling of the Robotaxi, scheduled for October 10, 2024. Industry experts speculate that the new vehicle could share its platform with the upcoming, more affordable Tesla Model 2, anticipated to hit the market at a price point below $30,000.
