Fortnite is giving its creator economy a major boost, with new ways to earn from engagement, smarter incentives to bring players back, and paid promotion options that feed money back into the community.
Here’s the foundation that remains in place: 40% of the net revenue from the Item Shop and related real-money purchases goes into an engagement pool. That pool is then distributed across creators’ islands and Epic’s own islands based on how players spend their time.
Starting November 1, 2025, that formula gets more creator-friendly. If you reengage lapsed players—people who haven’t been active and return to Fortnite because of your island—you’ll receive 75% of those players’ contributions to the engagement payout pool for their first six months back. In short, reviving dormant fans could become one of the most valuable growth strategies on the platform.
Also beginning in November, creators will be able to spend real money to promote their islands in a sponsored section on Discover. Half of the earnings from those sponsored placements will be added to the engagement payout pool for all creators, effectively recycling ad spend back into the ecosystem. As a limited-time promotion, that contribution rate jumps from 50% to 100% starting December 2025 and runs through the end of 2026, making every dollar spent on Discover sponsorships a direct boost to the overall creator pool during that period.
What’s changing and when
– Ongoing: 40% of net Item Shop and real-money revenue funds the engagement pool for creators’ and Epic’s islands.
– November 1, 2025: New reengagement bonus pays creators 75% of lapsed players’ contributions to the pool for the first six months after those players return.
– November 2025: Paid sponsored placements arrive in the Discover section; 50% of earnings go into the engagement pool.
– December 2025 through December 2026: Special promotion increases that Discover contribution from 50% to 100%.
Why this matters for creators
– Reengagement pays: Winning back former players can drive outsized returns for half a year, rewarding community-building and smart marketing.
– Discover sponsorships do double duty: They can grow your audience while simultaneously enriching the global engagement pool that pays creators.
– Bigger pie, more upside: With sponsored earnings feeding the pool—especially at 100% during the promo window—active creators stand to benefit from broader platform activity.
Tips to prepare
– Plan reengagement campaigns now: Create comeback events, seasonal updates, or fresh modes that give former players a reason to return and stick around for six months.
– Optimize your Discover spend: Test different creatives, headlines, and timing to find the best cost-per-returning player, especially while the 100% pool contribution promo is live.
– Focus on retention loops: The reengagement bonus is strongest when returning players keep playing. Offer progression hooks, quests, and social reasons to revisit your island.
– Track performance closely: Monitor how returning players behave compared to new players, and double down on what keeps them engaged.
This update signals a clear shift toward rewarding long-term, sustainable growth. If you can reignite interest from lapsed fans and make smart use of Discover sponsorships, the next year could be an especially profitable time to build—and rebuild—your Fortnite audience.
