Edifier Airpulse A80V Launches With Upgraded Mid-Bass Driver, Hi-Fi USB Audio, and More Inputs
Edifier has introduced the Airpulse A80V in China, a refreshed version of last year’s Airpulse A80 that keeps the speaker’s premium Hi-Fi foundation while adding several meaningful upgrades. The biggest change is a redesigned mid-bass driver, which Edifier says is tuned to deliver a fuller, warmer, and more rounded low-end response.
The Airpulse A80V continues to use the same horn-loaded aluminum ribbon tweeter found in the previous model. This tweeter design is one of the speaker’s standout features, as it combines the diaphragm and voice coil into a single lightweight structure. That setup helps the driver respond quickly to fast audio changes, reduce phase distortion, and reproduce high frequencies smoothly up to 40kHz.
For the mid-bass section, Edifier has fitted the A80V with a 4.5-inch driver built using an all-cast aluminum frame, a hardened aluminum alloy diaphragm, and a 30mm voice coil. This reworked unit is designed to improve bass texture and body without moving away from the compact bookshelf speaker format.
Power comes from a dual Texas Instruments TAS5754M Class D amplifier configuration. Each driver type gets its own dedicated amplifier, allowing the tweeter and mid-bass unit to be driven separately for better control and clarity. Edifier rates the output at 10W+10W for the tweeters and 40W+40W for the mid-bass drivers, with the company claiming low distortion at rated power levels. The amplifiers support digital audio processing at sampling rates up to 192kHz.
Connectivity has also been improved. The Airpulse A80V now includes a 3.5mm AUX input, giving users another analog option alongside the existing RCA line input. Both analog inputs pass through a Texas Instruments PCM1802 analog-to-digital converter with support for 96kHz/24-bit audio.
Digital audio support is even stronger. The speaker includes Toslink optical input and USB-C input, with the USB-C connection using Savitech Hi-Fi decoding. These digital inputs support up to 216kHz sampling and 192kHz/24-bit resolution, making the A80V a flexible choice for desktop Hi-Fi setups, media players, TVs, and computers.
Wireless playback is handled by Bluetooth 5.1 through a Qualcomm QCC3031 chip. The speaker also supports aptX HD, giving users a higher-quality Bluetooth option when paired with compatible devices.
The cabinet is made from 18mm MDF and uses internal wave-shaped sound-absorbing material to reduce resonance and standing waves. Edifier has also included a SUB OUT port, making it possible to connect an external subwoofer for deeper bass in larger rooms or home audio setups.
According to Edifier, the Airpulse A80V offers a frequency response of 52Hz to 20kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of at least 90dB(A) per channel. Each speaker measures 140 x 255 x 238mm, while the pair weighs 9.3kg.
The Edifier Airpulse A80V is now available in China for 2,879 yuan, which is approximately $402. For now, Edifier has not confirmed whether the speaker will be released in international markets.
