EA Makes Amends for Battlefield 6’s Rocky Launch with Free Boosts and Battle Pass Perks

EA apologizes for Battlefield 6 launch-day outage, offers free boosters and a battle pass to affected players

Battlefield 6’s big debut hit a snag when an EA app outage stopped many pre-order customers from playing on launch day. In response, Electronic Arts has apologized and is compensating impacted players with 12 Hardware and 12 Career 60-minute boosters, plus full access to the current seasonal battle pass. According to the studio, the items should land in affected players’ in-game inboxes this weekend.

The disruption was caused by a “purchase to play” bug that incorrectly locked players out after buying the game, even prompting some to purchase nonexistent DLC to access multiplayer or campaign. The issue also blocked those who pre-loaded from joining the massive queues forming on BF6 servers.

EA acknowledged the problem in a post on X, confirming that a fix has been rolled out and promising additional perks for those hit by the error. Beyond the 24 total boosters, players who were affected will receive full access to the ongoing seasonal battle pass. Additionally, anyone who bought the premium Phantom Edition—which already includes Battlefield Pro subscription benefits—will get free access to Season 2’s Battle Pass as well.

The gesture is meant to make up for prime launch-day gaming time lost while players tried verifying files, repairing installs, and reinstalling, only to encounter the same error. Battlefield Studios lead Vince Zampella called the situation “honestly embarrassing” and suggested that players who purchased through the EA app consider refunding and rebuying the game on Steam.

Despite the license hiccups, Battlefield 6 has surged out of the gate. The game shattered the publisher’s prior Steam records within hours of its October 10 release, peaking at 747,000 concurrent players—more than quadrupling Battlefield 5’s all-time high and surpassing Call of Duty’s previous peak of 491,000.

If you were locked out on launch day via the EA app, keep an eye on your in-game inbox for the boosters and battle pass access as the rollout completes. With the fix now live and servers stabilizing, the battlefield is finally open for everyone.
