Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 gameplay reveal highlights combat, Ki Breaks, Soul Assist, and 2027 release plans
Bandai Namco and Dimps have revealed a fresh look at Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, offering fans a deeper preview of the sequel’s fast-paced action RPG combat, mission structure, and character customization systems. The new gameplay showcase gives players a clearer idea of how battles will feel in the long-awaited next entry, which is currently planned for release in 2027.
Set in the previously unexplored AGE 1000 era, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 continues the series’ focus on player-created heroes, time-spanning missions, and team-based battles alongside legendary Dragon Ball characters. This time, the theme of connection plays a major role, influencing not only the story but also the way players build their fighters, unlock abilities, and fight with support from iconic warriors.
The gameplay footage follows a rookie member of the Great Saiya Squad through a full mission, showing how players will move between different combat situations. Missions can be tackled in squads of up to four, with battles shifting from waves of enemies to intense boss encounters. Players will need to adjust their tactics depending on the threat, making teamwork, timing, and smart use of abilities essential.
Ki remains the heart of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s combat system. Players can weaken opponents by draining their Ki through combos, charged attacks, and special Ki Drain-type Super Attacks. Once an enemy enters Ki Break status, they become open to a powerful Break Smash, a high-damage finisher designed to hit much harder than regular Super Attacks.
Super Attacks also come in several types, each offering its own secondary effects. This should give players more room to experiment with different builds and strategies. Ultimate Attacks return as cinematic, high-impact techniques that can be unleashed once the required gauge is filled, delivering the kind of explosive Dragon Ball spectacle fans expect.
Another major part of combat is Battle Style. Each character’s Battle Style affects their move set, combo flow, and overall fighting approach. This means players can shape their custom hero around techniques inspired by famous Dragon Ball fighters such as Goku, Vegeta, and other beloved characters from the franchise.
The new Soul Assist feature adds another layer to battles. Once the Assist Gauge is full, players can summon a Dragon Ball character to perform one of their signature attacks. This system reinforces the sequel’s connection theme, making classic heroes feel like active partners during missions rather than simple background figures.
Soul Switch takes that idea even further by allowing players to temporarily channel the soul of a chosen Dragon Ball character. During this state, the player’s appearance changes and their combat power receives a dramatic boost. This feature could become one of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s standout mechanics, especially for fans who want to mix their original character with the powers and style of legendary warriors.
Race-specific transformations are also returning. The gameplay reveal confirms Super Saiyan as one of the available awakenings, with more races, transformations, and playstyles expected to be shown in the future. For longtime Xenoverse players, this suggests that character progression and customization will remain a major focus of the experience.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027, giving fans plenty of time to learn more about its story, playable races, transformations, and expanded combat systems.
