Delta Force: Hawk Ops marks an exciting return for the beloved tactical first-person shooter series that began in 1998. Slated for a global open beta release on PC on December 5, 2024, this ninth installment is developed by Team Jade, part of TiMi Studio Group, whose impressive portfolio includes Call of Duty: Mobile and Arena of Valor. The anticipation from fans is palpable, and even though it will eventually be free-to-play, Hawk Ops is already garnering attention on Steam wish lists.
The game takes players through two captivating timelines: 1993 and 2035. In the gripping narrative of 1993, players step into the boots of an elite Delta Force officer amidst the tension of Somalia’s civil war, drawing inspiration from the iconic Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. Fast forward to 2035, players become part of the G.T.I., a unit forged from former Delta operators. This team is on a mission to dismantle the illegal dealings of the Haavk Corporation in the fictional city of Ahsarah. While the 1993 missions focus on traditional combat, 2035 introduces a futuristic spin, incorporating drones and cutting-edge technology for a refreshed tactical experience.
Hawk Ops promises exhilarating large-scale battles involving both infantry and vehicles, evoking comparisons to the Battlefield franchise. Ricky Liao, Design Director at Team Jade, has clarified that the game isn’t attempting to outdo Battlefield or Call of Duty, aiming instead to offer a unique and engaging experience that challenges players’ strategic prowess.
Early feedback from players who participated in the alpha phase and a subsequent playtest suggests a warm reception, with many noting a preference for Delta Force over Battlefield 2042. The co-op PvE mode and the rich variety of maps have struck a chord with players. However, there has been criticism regarding bots mimicking players, exhibiting unnatural behaviors and reactions. This issue is something players hope will be resolved before the highly anticipated open beta.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops is set to carve out its niche in the crowded shooter market by offering a dynamic blend of historical and futuristic warfare, catering to both nostalgia and the desire for innovative gameplay. As these issues are addressed, Hawk Ops is poised to deliver a fresh, tactical challenge that captivates both new players and series veterans alike.
