D Forum 2025 Spotlights ET35, Signaling Taiwan’s Shift to Smart, Homegrown EVs

DIGITIMES brought the spotlight to the future of transportation on December 12 with its “AI x EV: Dual-Track Innovation in Mobility” forum, an event designed to help the automotive industry make sense of fast-moving changes in smart vehicles and electric vehicles. As AI becomes more central to modern cars and EV adoption accelerates worldwide, the forum set out to unpack what these shifts mean for manufacturers, suppliers, policymakers, and technology partners—especially in Taiwan.

The gathering drew a broad mix of voices from government, academia, research organizations, and the private sector, creating a big-picture conversation about where mobility is heading and how the industry can prepare for what’s next. Discussions focused on both the current landscape and the longer-term outlook for smart vehicle development and the EV market, reflecting the growing need for cross-sector collaboration as vehicles evolve into software-driven, connected platforms.

Representing industry perspectives, Hung-Ching Yang, executive vice president of China Motor Corporation under the Yulon Group, shared insights on the opportunities and challenges facing Taiwan’s automotive ecosystem. His remarks emphasized that Taiwan is entering a pivotal moment: the global shift toward electric mobility and intelligent, AI-enabled vehicles is opening new doors for innovation, but it also brings intense competition and complex hurdles—from technology integration and supply chain readiness to building the capabilities needed to compete in a rapidly changing market.

By convening leaders across multiple fields, the forum underscored a clear message for the auto industry: success in the next era of mobility will depend on dual-track innovation—advancing EV technology while accelerating smart vehicle capabilities—so companies and regions can stay aligned with emerging trends and strengthen their position in the evolving global automotive landscape.
