Clicks is stepping beyond its popular physical keyboard cases and into full smartphone territory with the Clicks Communicator, an Android phone designed to bring back the classic BlackBerry-style experience—without giving up the features people expect from a modern device. It’s also packing a few hardware touches that have nearly disappeared from today’s phones, including a removable back cover, a notification LED, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
At the center of the Clicks Communicator is a compact 4.03-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a sharp 1080 × 1020 resolution, rounded corners, and even bezels. Instead of placing the selfie camera cutout in the middle, Clicks positions the punch-hole in the top-left corner, giving the front a distinctive look while keeping the display clean and practical for one-handed use. Up front, you’ll find a 24MP camera for selfies and video calls.
Under the hood, the phone runs on an unspecified 4nm MediaTek processor, paired with an unspecified amount of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Storage expansion is a big part of the appeal here too, thanks to a microSD card slot that supports up to 2TB—another increasingly rare feature in modern smartphones.
On the back, the Clicks Communicator keeps things simple with a single 50MP rear camera, complete with optical image stabilization for sharper shots and steadier video. Powering it all is a 4,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, and charging options include both USB-C and Qi2 wireless charging for added convenience.
Connectivity and everyday essentials are well covered. The device includes NFC for tap-to-pay, Wi‑Fi 6, a physical SIM slot plus eSIM support, and of course the standout audio jack at the top. There’s also a physical kill switch on the side, alongside a top-mounted power button—features that will likely appeal to privacy-focused users and anyone who misses straightforward hardware controls.
One of the most interesting additions is a dedicated side key on the right edge with an integrated customizable LED. Users can assign different LED colors to specific contacts or apps, making notifications easier to recognize at a glance. Press and hold the side key, and it can also be used to record voice notes, transcribe meetings, or convert speech into text, leaning into productivity and quick capture.
Then there’s the star of the show: the physical keyboard. It’s touch sensitive, allowing you to scroll through apps and webpages without constantly reaching up to the screen. A fingerprint scanner is built under the spacebar for quick unlocking, and the red Clicks key can be customized with shortcuts to streamline daily tasks.
Design-wise, the Clicks Communicator comes in three color options, featuring a flat frame and a removable back with a dimpled texture for extra grip. It ships with Android 16 and a custom launcher. Clicks says buyers can expect two years of Android version updates and five years of security updates.
Pricing is positioned to attract early adopters. The Clicks Communicator will be sold unlocked and is available to pre-order now. Early buyers can get it for $399, which includes priority access shipping and two free back covers valued at $100. There’s also an option to secure the $399 early-bird price with a $199 reservation deposit. After launch, the phone will cost $499.
Shipping is planned for later this year, with a more specific release date to be announced once the device reaches the final stage of manufacturing. For anyone who’s been waiting for a modern Android phone with a real keyboard—and misses the practical extras that have vanished from most flagships—the Clicks Communicator is shaping up to be one of the more unusual and potentially exciting smartphone releases of the year.
