Calm’s new Story-like mindfulness exercises offer an alternative to social media

Calm Introduces Story-Driven Mindfulness Exercises to Replace Social Media Scrolling

Calm is introducing a range of new features designed to help users integrate mindfulness more seamlessly into their daily routines. One of the standout additions is “Taptivities,” interactive text-based stories that can be completed in just a minute or two. The app is also enhancing its offering with Playlists and a personalized search function.

Taptivities are crafted to provide quick mindfulness sessions in a format akin to Instagram Stories or TikTok videos, making it easier for users to engage with themes such as gratitude, self-reflection, grounding, and deep breathing. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media, users are encouraged to take a moment for mindfulness.

These brief sessions aim to prompt activities like reflecting on emotions, taking mental breaks with focused counting, or contemplating loved ones.

With the new Playlists feature, users can now compile different types of content from the app into a personalized sequence. This means you can seamlessly transition from a Sleep Story to meditation or calming music without having to search for each piece individually. This functionality was highly requested by users and aims to enhance the overall experience on Calm.

The app’s new personalized search feature leverages individual preferences and listening histories to offer more precise recommendations. Improved category and time filters also allow for more refined searches, addressing previous shortcomings in the app’s search capabilities.

Additionally, Calm’s content library continues to grow and now features over 500 Sleep Stories, with notable narrators such as Kevin Bacon, Harry Styles, and Camila Cabello. Sleep Stories maintain their popularity, contributing to 19 billion minutes of listening time since the feature was first introduced.
