Brave Web Browser Now Features AI Assistant ‘Leo’ on Android Devices

Brave Software has expanded the presence of its artificial intelligence assistant known as ‘Leo’ to its web browser on Android devices after its initial launch on desktop platforms in November 2023.

The AI assistant ‘Leo’ is designed to enhance user productivity with a range of capabilities such as answering questions, summarizing content on webpages and videos, page translation, content generation for written material, transcription services for audio and video, as well as code writing. These features can notably save users time and provide convenience in their daily internet tasks.

‘Leo’ is natively powered by the Mixtral 8x7B large language model (LLM) but allows users the option to switch to alternative models such as Calude Instant and Llama 2 13B. Opting for Mixtral enables multilingual assistance in languages such as English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. A considerable advantage of using ‘Leo’ is the privacy aspect; users can interact with the assistant without the need to sign in or log in, and conversations are not recorded.

Access to ‘Leo’ is provided at no cost, allowing the broader audience to take advantage of its features. However, Brave Software also offers ‘Leo Premium’, a subscription-based version that costs USD 14.99 per month, catering to users who require higher rate limits on usage. The introduction of Leo to the Brave web browser on Android is being executed progressively with version 1.63. It could take some time before the feature is available to all users, so updating the app to the current version is recommended to access ‘Leo’ once available.
