Boox Poke 7 and Poke 7 Pro Debut Early With 6-Inch E Ink Displays, Android 11, and Fresh Colors
Boox has introduced its new Poke 7 series ahead of schedule, revealing two compact e-readers designed for readers who want a lightweight device with a sharp display and expandable storage. The lineup includes the Boox Poke 7 and Boox Poke 7 Pro, replacing the previous Poke 6 generation with a refreshed design and a slightly different product strategy.
Instead of launching a standard and lower-cost model as before, Boox is now offering a regular Poke 7 alongside a more capable Poke 7 Pro. At first glance, the two devices look almost identical. Both feature a compact 6-inch monochrome E Ink display with a crisp 300 ppi resolution, making them suitable for reading ebooks, documents, manga, and other text-heavy content.
The screen on both models sits flush with the front surface and is protected by tempered glass, giving the devices a cleaner and more modern appearance. Boox also says the front light has been improved, which should make reading more comfortable in different lighting conditions, whether indoors, outdoors, or at night.
Inside, both the Boox Poke 7 and Poke 7 Pro are powered by an unnamed Qualcomm octa-core processor. The main performance difference comes down to memory. The standard Poke 7 includes 2GB of RAM, while the Poke 7 Pro steps up to 3GB of RAM. That extra memory may help the Pro model feel smoother when switching between apps, handling larger files, or multitasking within Android.
Storage is the same on both models, with 32GB built in. For users with large ebook libraries, PDFs, comics, or audiobooks, Boox has also included a microSD card slot. The slot supports expansion up to 2TB, which is a major advantage for anyone who prefers keeping a large offline library on their device.
Both e-readers run Android 11 out of the box, giving users more flexibility than many traditional e-readers. Android support means the Poke 7 series can potentially run a wider selection of reading apps, making it appealing to users who rely on multiple ebook platforms or document tools.
Battery capacity is also identical across the two models. Each device includes a 1,500mAh battery. Since E Ink screens are known for low power consumption, the Poke 7 series should be able to provide long reading sessions between charges, though real-world battery life will depend on brightness settings, Wi-Fi use, and app activity.
The two models are also equally portable. Both measure 6.7mm thick and weigh 165g, making them easy to hold in one hand and convenient to carry in a small bag. This compact size is one of the biggest strengths of the Poke lineup, especially for readers who want an e-reader that feels closer to a paperback than a tablet.
Color choice is one area where the standard Boox Poke 7 has an advantage. It is available in Blue, White, and Sand, giving buyers more variety. The Boox Poke 7 Pro, meanwhile, is offered only in White.
Pricing starts at ¥1199, which is approximately $176 or €152, for the Boox Poke 7. The Boox Poke 7 Pro is priced at ¥1399, roughly $205 or €177. Buyers who order either model are expected to receive a free case and stand, adding extra value to the package.
The official release is set for May 21. While product listings have already appeared, some pricing details may still be placeholders and are expected to be updated once the devices officially go on sale.
With a sharp 300 ppi E Ink display, Android 11, expandable storage, and a lightweight build, the Boox Poke 7 and Poke 7 Pro appear to be strong options for readers looking for a portable e-reader with more flexibility than a basic ebook device. The standard Poke 7 offers more color choices and a lower price, while the Poke 7 Pro adds extra RAM for users who want a little more performance.
