Bluesky Introduces Video Tab on Profiles Amidst Surging User Growth

Bluesky is making waves in the social media landscape with its latest feature additions designed to enhance user experience. As the platform experiences a significant surge in users, surpassing 25 million members, it continues to innovate by introducing a new video tab. This addition organizes the multimedia content shared by its users, reflecting the increasing demand for features typically found on other social platforms.

The decentralized app, Bluesky, introduced video uploads back in September 2024. Building on this, the platform responded to a temporary TikTok outage by launching a vertical video feed earlier this month. The new video tab is part of Bluesky’s commitment to evolving its services and encouraging dynamic and impactful user posts.

With the recent update 1.97, users now find it simpler to block those who send offensive direct messages, alongside improved translation features. Although the platform is still in its infancy – having opened public registration only in February 2024 – feedback from its growing community is shaping its development. One frequently requested feature is the ability to edit posts; a function that remains elusive except through a premium subscription on other networks.

Bluesky’s inception can be traced back to 2019 when it was envisioned by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Its interface has a familiar vibe for former X users, yet its open-source AT protocol offers customizable feeds through smart filters. Even though text and images are predominant, video content is gaining traction, adding another layer to user engagement.

While X faces financial challenges and its owner Elon Musk navigates political waters, Bluesky, despite facing competition from platforms like Meta’s Threads, seems to be on an upward trajectory, signaling a promising future for the network.
