Balatro 1.1 Update Leak Reveals New Jokers, Voucher Changes, and Optional New Content
Balatro fans have fresh reasons to get excited, as creator LocalThunk has shared a new batch of details about the upcoming Balatro 1.1 update through the game’s official Discord community. While there is still no confirmed release date, the latest tease points to a meaningful update with new Jokers, a new trigger mechanic, voucher adjustments, and options for players who prefer the original experience.
One of the biggest reveals is that Balatro 1.1 will include at least four new Jokers. Previously, players were only expecting at least two, so this is a notable increase for anyone eager to experiment with fresh deck-building strategies. One of the teased Jokers is reportedly called Survey, which LocalThunk described as something that “does the thing with the face cards.” That vague description has already sparked plenty of speculation among players, especially given how important face-card synergy can be in certain Balatro runs.
Another Joker mentioned by name is Ace up your Sleeve. This card ties into a new trigger condition being added in the update: “when a card is drawn to hand.” In the example given, Ace up your Sleeve provides +1 Mult whenever an Ace is drawn. This may sound simple, but in Balatro, even small triggers can become powerful when stacked with the right deck, vouchers, enhancements, and card manipulation.
The new “drawn to hand” trigger will activate during rounds and can also work inside Tarot and Spectral packs. That detail could open the door to new combo routes, giving players more ways to build around card draw, deck control, and specific card ranks.
Vouchers are also getting attention in Balatro 1.1. A new tier 2 voucher called Lunker is planned for the update. LocalThunk also explained that voucher appearances will lean more toward tier 2 options depending on how many tier 1 vouchers a player owns across incomplete voucher sets. This should make voucher progression feel more dynamic and may help players reach stronger upgrades more consistently during a run.
The Blue Stake rework is still happening, but it has changed direction. LocalThunk said an earlier version was scrapped months ago in favor of a new approach that fits the game better. Blue Stake changes and Joker reworks will apply to everyone once the update arrives.
However, the new content itself will be optional. Balatro 1.1 will include a profile checkbox that allows players to disable the new material if they want to keep their experience closer to the current version. Importantly, achievements will still be earnable even with the new content turned off. That is good news for players who want to continue working toward completion without being forced into the updated content pool.
For PC players concerned about mods, there will also be a selectable 1.0 branch after the update launches. This should help older mods remain usable for players who want to preserve their existing setups.
As for the future beyond version 1.1, LocalThunk kept expectations realistic. The current plan appears to be Balatro 1.1.0, followed by a 1.1.1 balance update roughly a month or two later. He also suggested that players should not expect a larger 1.2 update, and official multiplayer is still not planned.
LocalThunk also reflected on the update’s long wait, saying he should not have given a date while being the only person working on the game, especially when no one had pushed him to announce one. For now, players can expect more small leaks and teasers, but not a firm launch window.
Even without a release date, the Balatro 1.1 update is shaping up to be an important expansion of the game’s strategy. With at least four new Jokers, a fresh draw-based trigger, voucher changes, Blue Stake adjustments, optional new content, and continued support for the original version, the update looks designed to satisfy both longtime players and those who prefer the game as it already is.
