AYN Odin 3 and Retroid Pocket 6 Get New OTA Updates With Key Fixes and New Features
AYN and Retroid have started rolling out fresh over-the-air software updates for two of their flagship Android gaming handhelds: the AYN Odin 3 and the Retroid Pocket 6. Both updates focus on improving stability, fixing bugs, and refining the overall handheld gaming experience. While the Odin 3 update is mainly centered on system fixes, the Pocket 6 update also introduces a couple of useful new features.
The latest AYN Odin 3 update arrives as version 1.0.0.187. It does not add major new features, but it brings several important improvements across areas such as graphics performance, display output, battery monitoring, and game compatibility.
One of the biggest changes is the updated GPU driver, now upgraded to version 800.72. This is designed to address GPU hang problems that could occur in demanding Android games, including Zenless Zone Zero. For users who push the Odin 3 with graphics-heavy titles, this should help improve reliability and reduce unexpected issues during gameplay.
The update also fixes a microphone problem that caused silence during WeChat voice calls. Another correction addresses abnormal resolution behavior when connecting the handheld to AR glasses, which should make external display use smoother for players who enjoy a more immersive setup.
AYN has also resolved random crashes that could happen when launching PUBG Mobile. In addition, the update fixes an issue where the input method pop-up would not appear during wireless Shizuku pairing. Battery-related readings have been improved as well, with a fix for inaccurate battery cutoff current data in certain monitoring apps.
However, not every known issue appears to be solved in this release. Some users have reported that HDR display concerns and fan noise complaints remain unresolved after installing the update.
There is also an important note for Odin 3 owners who have Rocknix installed. Some users may encounter an “Upgrade failed. code = 20” error during the update process. The reported workaround is to restore the original bootloader by running the restore_backup_abl script as root. Once the original bootloader is restored, the OTA update should install normally.
Meanwhile, the Retroid Pocket 6 is receiving its first OTA update since launch. This update comes as version 1.0.0.404 and includes several fixes, along with two notable additions that improve the device’s functionality.
One of the main fixes targets a power drain issue that occurred when the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on was connected during sleep mode. This should help preserve battery life and make the accessory more practical for regular use.
The update also resolves a permission error involving isSafetyCenterEnabled in PrebuiltGmsCore and the Play Store app. Another fix corrects an incorrect string configuration on the lock screen interface, improving the overall polish of the system software.
For gamers, the most interesting addition is a new gamepad takeover method. This adds support for vibration feedback and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller-style haptic features, giving users more flexibility and a better controller experience.
Retroid has also added ultra black mode support for the Pocket 6’s OLED screen. This feature should help deliver deeper blacks and a more visually striking experience, especially in darker games or when using the handheld in low-light environments.
Overall, these OTA updates show that both AYN and Retroid are actively improving their latest Android gaming handhelds after launch. The Odin 3 update focuses heavily on performance and stability, while the Pocket 6 update combines bug fixes with meaningful new features. For owners of either device, installing the latest firmware should make the handheld gaming experience smoother, more reliable, and better optimized.
