Audio-Technica has unveiled a fresh brand, Mimio, introducing two innovative products aimed at assisting people with hearing difficulties: the Mimio Assist One earbuds and Mimio Sound Move speakers.
Hearing loss, particularly the decline in sensitivity to higher frequencies, is a common issue as we age. It can make communication challenging and is linked to a heightened risk of dementia. Mimio’s new offerings cater to individuals who don’t require prescription hearing aids. These personal sound amplification devices, recognized by the FDA, offer an accessible alternative without needing a medical prescription.
The Mimio Assist One earbuds (model ATMM-SHD1) are wireless earbuds styled similarly to Audio-Technica’s popular models. Designed for versatility, they function like standard earbuds for users without hearing challenges, connecting to any Bluetooth-enabled audio source. For those with hearing difficulties, a specialized hearing mode activates automatically when the earbuds are worn, independent of an external audio source. They feature three distinct modes—TV, conversation, and outdoors—and include functionality to enhance clarity by minimizing the user’s own voice. Users can tailor their experience via a smartphone app, and the earbuds boast an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Mimio Sound Move speakers (model ATMM-SP780TV) are portable, battery-powered, and can be positioned near the user, with a range extending up to 30 meters from the TV. The accompanying transmitter and recharging dock connect directly to the TV and require AC power. The speakers feature two Clear Sound settings designed to enhance speech clarity. With an IPX2 rating, these speakers are perfect for kitchen use, offering protection against water splashes.
Set to launch in Japan, the Assist One earbuds will be available from August 1, while the Sound Move speakers will follow on August 8. Pricing for the earbuds is approximately $340 (49,500 yen), and the speakers around $150 (21,780 yen). To help users test the products before committing, a rental service offers a 20-night trial at approximately $27 (3,980 yen) or a three-month rental for about $92 (13,440 yen).
For those outside Japan seeking improved television audio, exploring similar solutions might be worthwhile. Audio-Technica continues to blend technology and innovation, providing accessible solutions for everyday challenges.
