Assassin’s Creed Unity Receives Free 60FPS Upgrade as Ubisoft Hints at a Black Flag “Resynced” Remake and Reveals What’s Next for the Franchise

Ubisoft appears to be inching closer to bringing back one of the most beloved pirate adventures in the Assassin’s Creed series. Although the company hasn’t issued a full, formal announcement with gameplay details, signs continue to point toward a modern remake centered on Edward Kenway. The project is widely expected to refresh the original experience with upgraded visuals and updated gameplay systems designed for today’s hardware.

Fueling the excitement, Ubisoft recently published new official artwork for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on its official blog. While the studio stopped short of calling it an official reveal, the artwork strongly suggests the project is real and moving forward. This “soft confirmation” has reignited discussion around when the game might arrive.

Earlier reports indicated the Black Flag remake could release before March 31, 2026. With Ubisoft teasing the game again at the start of the month, that timing still seems possible, even though the publisher hasn’t confirmed a launch window. For now, fans will have to wait for Ubisoft to share specifics on platforms, release date, and how much the remake changes beyond graphics and quality-of-life upgrades.

Ubisoft also used the update to check in on the broader Assassin’s Creed roadmap. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which launched last year, has already gone through multiple updates shaped by community feedback. One of the most notable improvements has been further work on the parkour system, an area longtime fans consistently watch closely.

Shadows is set to celebrate its first anniversary with a livestream scheduled for March 20 at 10 AM PT / 6 PM CET on Ubisoft’s Twitch channel. Ubisoft also confirmed the game is transitioning into its final phase of support, meaning future patches will be smaller in scope as active development winds down.

Looking ahead, Ubisoft reaffirmed that several new Assassin’s Creed projects remain in development. Codename Hexe is described as a darker, narrative-driven entry, while Codename Invictus is being built as a PvP-focused multiplayer experience. The publisher also stated that Assassin’s Creed Jade is still on the way, and the planned Netflix live-action series continues to move forward.
