ASRock’s Latest BIOS Update Preps 600/800-Series Motherboards for Next-Gen AMD and Intel CPUs

ASRock is rolling out fresh BIOS updates that prepare its 600- and 800-series motherboards for the next wave of processors from both AMD and Intel. If you’re planning a CPU upgrade soon, these updates could be the key to making sure your current board is ready when the new chips arrive.

On the AMD side, ASRock has moved from a beta release to a stable BIOS update that includes AMD AGESA version 1.2.7.1. This update is designed to add support for “upcoming” AMD CPUs on AM5 motherboards, specifically across select 600-series and 800-series models.

A number of X870 boards have now received BIOS version 4.03 with AGESA 1.2.7.1, along with a handful of other AM5 chipsets. The models called out so far include:

X870 Nova WiFi
X870 Riptide WiFi
X870 Steel Legend WiFi
X870 Taichi Creator
X870E Nova WiFi
B850M-A
B650 Pro RS WiFi
B650 Pro RS
A620M-C R2.0

So what “upcoming processors” are these BIOS updates likely preparing for? Based on current expectations, this points toward AMD’s next Zen 5-based additions, including Ryzen 9000X3D desktop CPUs (often mentioned in the same breath as models like the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D) as well as Zen 5 APUs commonly referenced as Ryzen 9000G or possibly 10000G series. These potential launches are widely expected to be announced during CES 2026, scheduled for January 6 to 9. More ASRock boards—especially additional 800-series models and a broader range of 600-series options—are also expected to receive stable BIOS updates soon.

ASRock isn’t only focusing on AMD, either. The company has also issued a new BIOS for select Intel 800-series motherboards. BIOS version 2.12 is now available for two models, bringing updated Intel microcode and a new ME version, with release notes indicating support for upcoming Intel processors:

B860M-X Gen5
B860M-X Gen5 WiFi

This lines up with ongoing chatter around Intel’s Arrow Lake Refresh lineup. Leaks suggest the refresh could introduce three new unlocked “Plus” SKUs: Core Ultra 9 290K Plus, Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, and Core Ultra 5 250K Plus.

For now, these are the main “next-gen” CPU families believed to be on the horizon, and the BIOS releases from ASRock look like early preparation for those launches. If you own one of the supported boards, updating to the latest stable BIOS may help ensure smoother compatibility when AMD Zen 5 X3D chips or Intel Arrow Lake Refresh processors land.
