The popular Twitch streamer Asmongold, also known as Zack Hoyt, recently faced a suspension from the platform after a controversial rant concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict. During his stream, he made inflammatory remarks, stating that Palestinians have “genocide baked into Sharia law” and labeled them as “terrible people.” He further suggested that if Palestinians held more military and institutional power, they might engage in similar acts.
His comments extended to a broader critique of what he described as an “inferior culture,” criticizing the treatment of LGBT+ individuals in many majority Muslim nations. Though Palestine is distinct in that it does not explicitly outlaw same-sex activity, members of the LGBT+ community still face challenges, including extrajudicial violence from groups like Hamas.
Following the spread of the controversial clip, Twitch took action by banning Asmongold’s alternate account, Zackrawrr. Although his primary account remains active, using it to stream might constitute a violation of Twitch’s rules against ban evasion, effectively restricting both his accounts.
In the wake of the backlash, Asmongold issued an apology on social media, acknowledging his harsh words and expressing regret for his approach to the sensitive topic. He admitted to being excessively harsh and vowed to make amends, recognizing that everyone deserves respect regardless of differing perspectives.
