ASE to Strengthen Semiconductor Capacity With New AOI and AVI Equipment Purchase From Machvision
ASE is moving to expand its production capabilities with a new equipment purchase aimed at supporting rising demand in semiconductor packaging and testing. At a news briefing held on September 11, 2026, the company announced that its board of directors had approved the acquisition of automated optical inspection and automated visual inspection systems from Machvision.
The deal, valued at approximately NT$334 million, includes AOI and AVI equipment designed to improve inspection efficiency, enhance production quality, and support greater capacity across ASE’s operations.
Automated optical inspection and automated visual inspection systems play an important role in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. These tools help detect defects, improve process accuracy, and maintain consistent quality as production volumes increase. For a major semiconductor assembly and testing company like ASE, investing in inspection technology is a key part of staying competitive in a fast-moving market.
Machvision, described as a related company, will supply the equipment as ASE continues to respond to capacity needs. The purchase reflects ongoing investment in high-precision manufacturing tools, especially as demand for chips used in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, mobile devices, automotive electronics, and consumer products continues to grow.
ASE’s decision also highlights the increasing importance of quality control in semiconductor production. As chips become more complex and packaging technologies advance, manufacturers must rely on more sophisticated inspection systems to reduce defects and improve yield. AOI and AVI solutions are widely used to identify surface issues, alignment problems, and other production flaws that can affect final product reliability.
The approved purchase signals ASE’s confidence in future demand and its focus on strengthening its manufacturing infrastructure. By adding more advanced inspection equipment, the company is positioning itself to handle higher production requirements while maintaining strict quality standards.
This latest investment is part of a broader trend across the semiconductor industry, where companies continue to expand capacity and upgrade equipment to support next-generation chip technologies. For ASE, the acquisition from Machvision is expected to enhance operational efficiency and support its long-term role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
