Apple just unleashed a wave of public betas for its December-bound software updates, giving iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Vision Pro, and Apple TV users an early look at what’s next. Alongside those, the first developer build of macOS Tahoe 26.2 is now available to developers, with a wider public beta expected later.
Here’s what stands out across the new releases, starting with the biggest changes on iPhone.
iOS 26.2 public beta 1
The Podcasts app gets smarter in three meaningful ways:
– Automatic episode chapters to make long shows easier to navigate
– Quick options to see and follow shows mentioned in an episode, directly from the player and transcript
– A From This Episode section with all the links referenced in that show, gathered on the episode page
Apple News adds four fresh sections designed for quicker discovery and deeper browsing:
– Sports
– Puzzles
– Politics
– Food
Personalization and productivity get welcome upgrades:
– A new Liquid Glass slider lets you adjust the lock screen clock’s opacity to match your wallpaper and style
– You can now create alarms directly in the Reminders app; when a reminder alarm goes off, you’ll see a snooze option and a slide to stop, with the ability to swap snooze for Mark as Complete
AirPods pick up Live Translation in the EU, supporting these languages:
– English (U.S.)
– English (U.K.)
– French (France)
– German (Germany)
– Portuguese (Brazil)
– Spanish (Spain)
– Chinese, Simplified (China)
– Chinese, Traditional (China)
– Japanese
– Korean
– Italian
Health and sleep tracking get a tuning:
– Sleep Score now uses Very High as the top category, replacing Excellent
– Thresholds for each category have been adjusted for clearer insights
iPadOS 26.2 public beta 1
All the iOS 26.2 changes carry over to iPad, plus two tablet-focused upgrades:
– Freeform now supports tables for more structured brainstorming and planning
– Apple Music lyrics work offline, so you can follow along without a connection
macOS Tahoe 26.2 developer beta
The first developer build has arrived. It’s currently limited to developers, with a public beta on the way.
watchOS 26.2, visionOS 26.2, and tvOS 26.2 public betas
Public betas are also live for Apple Watch, Vision Pro, and Apple TV, rounding out the ecosystem-wide update cycle.
If you’re eager to try the new features early, remember that beta software can include bugs and performance quirks. Back up your devices before installing and proceed only if you’re comfortable with pre-release software.
