Amazon Leo Wins Taiwan NCC Approval as 2027 Commercial Debut Nears

Amazon Leo Moves Closer to Taiwan Launch, but Service Is Still Expected in 2027

FarEasTone Telecommunications has taken another major step toward bringing Amazon Leo satellite internet services to Taiwan. The company has now cleared four of the six required regulatory stages, signaling steady progress in the approval process for the upcoming low Earth orbit satellite network.

While the latest regulatory milestone is an important development, consumers and businesses in Taiwan should not expect the service to go live immediately. A commercial launch is still not expected before 2027 at the earliest, which matches Amazon’s broader rollout schedule for the Leo satellite internet platform.

Amazon Leo is designed to provide high-speed broadband connectivity through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites. The service is expected to support areas where traditional fixed-line broadband or mobile networks may be limited, making it potentially valuable for rural communities, remote locations, maritime operations, emergency response, and enterprise connectivity.

For Taiwan, the arrival of satellite broadband could strengthen network resilience and expand access to reliable internet services beyond major urban centers. FarEasTone’s role in the approval process suggests that local telecom partnerships will be important as Amazon prepares to bring the service to international markets.

The remaining two regulatory steps will still need to be completed before the platform can move toward commercial availability. These approvals are essential for ensuring that the satellite service meets Taiwan’s telecommunications, spectrum, and operational requirements.

Although the 2027 timeline means the launch is still some time away, the progress so far indicates that Amazon Leo’s Taiwan debut is moving forward. If approved as planned, the service could become a new option in Taiwan’s broadband market, adding satellite-based connectivity to the country’s existing telecom infrastructure.
