Adaptalux Pod Mini 2.0 brings Bluetooth control to compact macro photography lighting
Adaptalux has introduced the Pod Mini 2.0, an upgraded version of its compact lighting hub designed specifically for macro photography. Built for photographers who work with tiny subjects, close-up textures, insects, product details, and other hard-to-light scenes, the new model adds smarter wireless control, improved durability, and better power handling while keeping the same portable design.
The Pod Mini 2.0 is made to work with Adaptalux’s interchangeable LED and Xenon flash lighting arms. These arms attach magnetically to the hub, giving photographers a flexible way to place light exactly where it is needed. This is especially useful in macro photography, where the subject is often too close for a standard camera flash to illuminate properly.
The biggest upgrade is Bluetooth support through the redesigned Adaptalux app. With the app, users can adjust brightness remotely without touching the lighting setup, reducing the risk of moving the camera or disturbing the subject. Photographers can also connect multiple Pod Mini and Control Pod units together, making it easier to build a more coordinated lighting arrangement for detailed close-up shots.
Adaptalux has also improved the physical design. The previous acrylic front panel has been replaced with anodized aluminum, giving the Pod Mini 2.0 a stronger and more premium feel. The buttons are now darker as well, helping reduce unwanted reflections that can appear in reflective macro subjects such as glass, jewelry, water droplets, or glossy product surfaces.
Another practical improvement is the ability to fully power off the unit while keeping brightness settings saved. This was not possible with the earlier model and should make the Pod Mini 2.0 more convenient during longer shooting sessions. Battery management has also been refined so Bluetooth connectivity does not drain power as quickly.
Despite these updates, the core specifications remain familiar. The Pod Mini 2.0 still includes a single lighting-arm port, USB-C charging, and around eight hours of battery life. It also remains compatible with existing Adaptalux lighting arms, which is good news for photographers already invested in the system.
One limitation is that app support is currently limited to iOS, with Android compatibility still unavailable. That may be an important consideration for photographers who want full wireless control but do not use an iPhone or iPad.
The Adaptalux Pod Mini 2.0 is available globally with a price of $92.67 before shipping. Lighting arms and additional accessories are sold separately.
Overall, the Pod Mini 2.0 is more of a focused refinement than a complete redesign, but the added Bluetooth control, tougher aluminum front panel, improved power behavior, and better shooting convenience make it a useful upgrade for macro photographers who want more control over close-up lighting.
