Xodus Nexus Aims to Make Non-Steam Games Easier to Launch on Steam Deck
A new launcher called Xodus Nexus is looking to solve one of the more frustrating parts of using the Steam Deck: managing and launching games outside the standard Steam ecosystem.
The tool is designed to let users add Xodus Nexus, as well as individual games, directly to the Steam library as shortcuts. Once added, they can be opened from Steam Deck Gaming Mode, making the experience feel more streamlined and console-like. For players who regularly switch between different game libraries, launchers, and storefronts, this could be a useful way to keep everything in one place.
One of the key goals of Xodus Nexus is to improve navigation on the Steam Deck. The developer has introduced experimental controller support, which is intended to make it easier to browse and launch games without constantly relying on desktop controls. This is especially important for Steam Deck users who prefer to stay in Gaming Mode rather than switching back and forth to Desktop Mode.
However, the launcher is still not a fully polished solution. The developer notes that a mouse or touchscreen may still be needed in some situations, particularly when dealing with login screens, pop-up windows, or system dialogs. This means users should not expect a completely seamless controller-only experience just yet.
At this stage, Xodus Nexus appears to be a work in progress. While the software is not perfect and may still have compatibility issues, early reports suggest that some games can already be launched successfully through the tool. That makes it an interesting project to watch for Steam Deck owners who want a simpler way to access non-Steam games from Gaming Mode.
If development continues, Xodus Nexus could become a helpful addition for players who want a cleaner, more unified gaming experience on the Steam Deck. For now, it is best viewed as an experimental launcher with promising potential rather than a finished all-in-one solution.
