8BitDo’s NES-inspired Retro Cube 2 Speaker – N Edition has officially moved from pre-order to in-stock status, and it’s now shipping to buyers who reserved one when it was announced in October. Released to mark the 40th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System, this compact retro-style speaker updates 8BitDo’s original Retro Cube Speaker from 2016 with modern connectivity, longer battery life, and a new charging setup.
The Retro Cube 2 Speaker – N Edition is priced at $49.99 and is sold exclusively through 8BitDo’s own online store. Visually, it leans hard into classic Nintendo nostalgia with a design that mirrors the NES aesthetic. Up top, the controls are styled like a classic D-pad, instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up with an NES controller.
Despite its small footprint, the speaker includes two 5W drivers, and 8BitDo says you can pair a second unit for a true stereo setup. That makes it a more flexible option for desks, bedrooms, or gaming spaces where you want a little more separation than a single compact speaker typically provides.
One of the biggest changes compared with the 2016 model is how it connects. The Retro Cube 2 drops the old aux port, but replaces it with multiple modern options: Bluetooth 5.3, a 2.4GHz wireless mode (with a USB-C adapter included), and a wired USB-C connection. There’s also a gaming mode designed to reduce latency, which is especially useful if you’re pairing it with a handheld, console setup, or PC and want audio that feels better synced to on-screen action.
8BitDo also built in a microphone, letting the Retro Cube 2 double as a speakerphone for calls when connected to a compatible device.
Another standout addition is wireless charging. The Retro Cube 2 Speaker – N Edition comes with a wireless charging dock, and the dock includes a dedicated slot to store the included 2.4GHz USB-C adapter. Inside the speaker is a 2,000mAh battery, and when it’s fully charged, 8BitDo rates it for up to 30 hours of playback. That’s a major leap from the previous generation’s quoted 8-hour battery life, and it makes the Retro Cube 2 a more practical everyday speaker rather than just a novelty collectible.
The Retro Cube 2 Speaker – N Edition is also part of a wider set of anniversary-themed releases from 8BitDo celebrating the NES milestone. Alongside the speaker, the company also announced a NES-themed Ultimate 2 Bluetooth controller, plus the Retro 68 Keyboard – NES 40th Limited Edition, which is expected to arrive in January 2026.
