007 First Light sells over 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours
IO Interactive’s new James Bond game, 007 First Light, is already off to a powerful start. The developer announced that the spy action-adventure game sold more than 1.5 million copies within just 24 hours of launch, making it one of the biggest new releases centered on the legendary MI6 agent.
007 First Light launched worldwide on May 27 for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A version for Nintendo Switch 2 is also planned for release at a later date.
The game introduces players to a younger James Bond, long before he becomes the polished and iconic secret agent known around the world. Rather than following an established film storyline, 007 First Light tells a standalone origin story that reimagines Bond’s early days as a bold, talented, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program.
The story begins with Bond as a young Naval air crewman whose bravery catches the attention of MI6. After a heroic act, he is invited to join the newly revived Double 0 program. However, his path to becoming 007 quickly takes a darker turn when a mission to stop a rogue agent ends in tragedy.
Forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy, Bond teams up with his reluctant mentor, Greenway. Together, they must uncover a plot that threatens the heart of the State and stop a coup before it is too late.
007 First Light aims to deliver a cinematic espionage experience filled with high-stakes missions, stylish action, and player choice. Fans can expect exotic locations, intense chases, iconic vehicles, stealth-based infiltration, gadgets, hand-to-hand combat, and explosive shootouts.
One of the game’s biggest features is its flexible approach to missions. Players can choose to move quietly through enemy territory, use disguises and deception, rely on gadgets, or take a more direct approach with fists and firepower. This “spying your way” design gives each mission replay value and lets players shape Bond’s style before he becomes the world’s most famous spy.
The game also includes mission replay options with additional modifiers, allowing players to test their skills and revisit favorite scenarios in new ways. This gives 007 First Light more longevity beyond its main campaign, especially for players who enjoy experimenting with different strategies.
With more than 1.5 million copies sold in its first day, 007 First Light has made an impressive debut. The strong launch suggests major interest in a fresh James Bond origin story, especially one that gives players control over how Bond grows into the elite MI6 agent known as 007.
