Exciting New Software Launches for Garmin Forerunner 165: Public Testing Begins

Garmin is stirring excitement with its latest software update for the Forerunner 165 series. Although the update streamlines over half a dozen modifications, it seems certain exclusive features are reserved for the more premium ‘Music’ editions of the smartwatch.

Recently, Garmin rolled out a series of updates targeting its latest Forerunner smartwatches. These updates, currently part of Garmin’s Beta Program, hint at a major software enhancement phase for models like the Forerunner 165, which is available for around $249 online.

Amidst enthusiasm, some vigilant users noticed discrepancies in Garmin’s initial changelog that accompanied Public Beta Version 21.14. Surprisingly, Garmin had suggested that this update would allow the Forerunner 165 to automatically estimate Lactate Threshold and Functional Threshold Power levels post-activity without user intervention. However, these features were mistakenly listed and subsequently removed, reflecting that these capabilities are yet to be a part of the basic Forerunner 165’s offerings.

Interestingly, the major highlight here is the exclusive availability of the new Meditation activity and accompanying videos, which are limited to the Forerunner 165 ‘Music’ models. For the standard models, Public Beta Version 21.14 focuses on seven functional enhancements, notably absent Wi-Fi connectivity.

Some of the key updates in this version include enhancements tailored for sports and wellness tracking, like the addition of Moon Phase insights, rectification of Android notification glitches, stabilization of heart rate recording, and improvements in navigation using maps. Furthermore, the update refines specific workout suggestions and optimizes features related to swimming exercises, such as pace alerts and swim speed metrics.

The latest update also features improved pool swim rest screen functionality, updated alert tones, and thoughtful updates to mobile translations for a better user experience.

As the overhaul of software developments unfolds, it’s evident that Garmin is committed to enriching the user experience for Forerunner 165 users, albeit with certain perks exclusively crafted for those opting for the ‘Music’ variants.
